Uganda has been our winter training destination for the last 10 years – it’s a paradise for Kayakers.
The White Nile has some of the best waves in the World and is a beautiful place to spend time, but the true beauty of spending months there is the way life simplifies – no internet, phone or TV.
We live in a tent on an island, with just a few other paddlers, eating the local fruits, kayaking, playing games and just watching the wildlife – You feel calmer, more alert and in-tune with the World around – it’s like hitting the refresh button spending time there.
The island we stay on called the Hairy Lemon is owned by a guy called Paul who is working very hard to help the wildlife & ecosystem of the area and his island is a haven for animals and native plants as well as kayakers 😉
We spent 2 months kayaking there and previously i’ve made countless edits of myself from Uganda so this time I wanted to do something different. Something to show the lifestyle & the beauty of the place.
I’ve made a little mini-docu film about my wife Katya, our life in Uganda & the place. Katya is also an amazing kayaker who competes for Russia, she’s also an amazing artist…
All of this area is under threat from a flawed new dam project that aside from not really doing much to help Uganda would wreck an enormous area of natural beauty, communities and unique habitats as well as ruining the kayaking, all to produce a measly amount of electricity when a lesser damn would produce nearly the same power without ruining anywhere the amount of land proposed and would keep the rapids we cherish so much. Please read about it here and see how you can help.
